Mark Behrens, the Cecil and Ida Green Career Development Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, and Frank Solomon, a professor in the Department of Biology, have been selected to receive the 2010-11 School of Science Prize for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. Behrens was nominated for his enthusiasm and clarity with which he taught Algebraic Topology II (18.906), while Solomon was nominated for his dedication to mentorship, as well as his outstanding teaching. Both will be presented their awards at a luncheon in their honor later this fall.

This year a cohort of talented and diverse interns participated in the nine week MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP). Meet the interns here. These undergraduate students came to MIT from all over the United States, including Puerto Rico, to conduct research in preparation for graduate school. 70% are undergraduate juniors, 17% are sophomores, and 13% are seniors.

Information Services and Technology is now offering Microsoft Office Professional licenses at no cost to MIT students through the Institute’s Microsoft Campus Agreement (MSCA). Each MIT student is entitled to install Microsoft Office on one personally owned machine. Students can download the software from the Microsoft Campus Agreement for Office download site (certificates required). For additional information on installing and using Microsoft Office products, visit the Obtaining Microsoft Office page in the Hermes knowledge base. Four MIT doctoral students nominated by ODGE were among 48 students from 60 research institutions and from 22 countries chosen to receive the International Student Research Fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI):
