Nominate an outstanding grad teacher for the Goodwin Medal by March 15

The Office of the Dean for Graduate Education is soliciting nominations for this year’s Goodwin Medal for outstanding teaching by a graduate student, as part of the MIT Awards Convocation.  Each year, MIT awards the Goodwin Medal to a graduate TA or Instructor who has performed above and beyond the norm, and whose teaching efforts can truly be characterized as “conspicuously effective.”  The award consists of an engraved bronze medal and a cash gift of $2,500.  If there is a graduate TA or Instructor in your department who has performed above and beyond the norm, please consider submitting a nomination (one allowed per department) on his/her behalf for the Goodwin Medal.  For more details on the Goodwin Medal, eligibility and nomination process, please see:  Any member of the faculty or any organized student group (through one of its responsible officers) may submit a nomination to the appropriate department officer (i.e. department head, assistant department head) in the candidate’s home department.  The final nomination from each department is due to the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education by 5:00pm on Friday, March 15th, 2013 — be sure to get your nomination to the department head several days prior.  Nomination letters may be addressed to Dean Ortiz; nomination packages should be sent to Jessica Landry ( in the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education electronically as a single PDF file.  The recipient will be announced at the MIT Awards Convocation on Thursday, April 25th, 2013 at 4:00pm in MIT Room 10-250.
